Start with a
stopped fan.

Plan the task before extending a dusting pole. The right setup is one you can control comfortably while following the fan manufacturer’s instructions.

1. Switch it off and wait

Turn the fan off and allow the blades to stop completely. Read the fan’s maintenance instructions, including any requirements for isolating its power supply. Do not put a tool near moving blades.

2. Protect the space below

Move fragile objects out of the way and consider how you will collect falling dust. Work from high surfaces toward low ones so you do not repeatedly clean an area that is still receiving dust.

3. Choose a controllable length

The DTZERT pole is listed as adjustable from 30 to 100 inches. That measurement does not describe a guaranteed safe cleaning height. Your height, the head, the angle and the room all matter. Do not stand on unstable furniture or stretch beyond comfortable control.

4. Use light contact

Select a suitable head and check its connection. Avoid forcing a blade, snagging decorative parts or putting pressure on light fittings. Follow surface and appliance care instructions instead of assuming any head is suitable for every finish.

5. Finish the room

Collect dust from nearby furniture and the floor, then clean and dry the tools according to their own instructions. If a fan cannot be reached and cleaned safely, use a suitable alternative or arrange help.
